Anna Samoylova is a Russian artist who explores Russia today and in history. In search of the true cultural base, not imposed by the government, she goes back to tradition, exploring Russian cultural and historical heritage. Her recent works inevitably deal with the theme of suffering and death. But in the end, the characters find the light again, as does the whole narrative. In her work Anna uses materials such as fabric, embroidery, pearls and beadwork, traditionally considered the domain of women. She also works extensively with relief printing techniques as a tribute to traditional culture.
